Ruth is a former classroom teacher with eight years of teaching in fourth through sixth grades and seven years in kindergarten.  She received degrees in elementary education and early childhood education from Arkansas State University and the University of Central Arkansas, respectively. With Brenda Shurley, she has co-authored seven editions of Shurley English. Ruth values the positive impact Shurley English has made on students since 1989 and loves to hear success stories from teachers and students.

Ruth and her husband Kent have been married for 26 years and are blessed with five grown children and nine wonderful grandchildren. Ruth loves her family, reading, music, camping, and enjoying God’s beautiful creation.
