Brenda Shurley:

Author and Contributing Blogger

During her first year of teaching, Brenda felt very frustrated because her students did not retain or understand many basic grammar concepts. She was unable to find a curriculum that met the needs of her students, so she decided to develop her own. Brenda wanted her English program to reach children with different learning abilities, to instill a love of learning, and to give students a solid foundation from which to build advanced writing and speaking skills. Thus, the Shurley curriculum was born.

Over the years, Brenda perfected and expanded Shurley English. She watched students in her classroom succeed in English and believe in themselves again. She grew more excited as she realized the Shurley curriculum could open nearly unlimited learning potential for every student.

Today, there are eight editions of Shurley English that can be found in public schools, private schools, and homeschools throughout the United States and in ten foreign countries. The Shurley company is family-owned and operated in Brenda's hometown of Cabot, Arkansas.

When Brenda is not working on curriculum development, you will find her spending time with her six grandchildren. Brenda is the best board-game playing, tea-party throwing, card-playing grandmother around. After all, making memories is what life is all about.
